GSA Gorilla Sports is proud to announce the launch of its 2020 Season Junior Talent Scholarship Program.
Launched in 2018 the GSA Junior Talent Scholarship Program was created to encourage participation in football for talented young players. Scholarship recipients will benefit from 70% of their annual Club fees being paid by GSA, and the scholarship is targeted at supporting young players, aged 8 – 16 years old, who would not otherwise be able to play in 2020.
Football (soccer) has the highest level of junior participation levels in Australia however annual club fees can be a significant burden on a family budget. The fee pressures increase as players’ talent develops, with NPL club fees in the thousands of dollars per year.
Government support of Australian football has historically trailed well behind other sports, despite the significant numbers of youth involvement in the sport. Playing at higher levels is often prohibitively expensive for many talented younger players and there are only limited avenues for scholarships and supported funding.
The GSA scholarship aims to boost youth participation in football, and in particular, support talented players from who might otherwise leave football due to the cost of playing.
About the Program
The GSA scholarship will fund up to 70% of a player’s annual club fees, and applications are invited from clubs, on behalf of players aged 8 -16 years. Scholarships are awarded based on financial hardship considerations, as well as the player’s commitment to their club and the game.
Applications must be submitted from Clubs, not individual players. All scholarship payments will be made directly to the relevant club on behalf of the successful applicant.
